21/05/2025 Visit to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance
As the first few Morgans drove round the perimeter of North Weald Airfield we were treated to the sight of the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance (EHAA) taking off on a potentially life-saving mission.Unfortunately that was the very same helicopter that 20 members of Anglemog had come to see as part of a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities at EHAA’s North Weald base. Not that the crew’s disappearance to possibly save lives negatively impactedour day; we’re a very understanding bunch! So whilst the EHAA volunteers tracked the helicopter’s flight path and kept us informed of its movements we were treated to a detailed talk about the history of air ambulances and how the Essex base (along with another site in Earls Colne) serves the communities of both Essex and Hertfordshire.Across the country there are 21 charities operating 34 helicopters and it’s an expensive business; EHAA needs to fundraise £12million a year to keep its two helicopters operational 365 days a year between 8am and 8pm. It also has two rapid response vehicles for night-time emergencies. As our helicopter started to head back to base before being called out elsewhere, we learned about the hospital emergency level of care that the charity’s pre-hospital care doctor and critical care paramedic provide. The team, which also includes a pilot and co-pilot, is called out on averagethree to four times a day. Fortunately the air ambulance returned to base whilst we were still on site so not only were we able to see the helicopter up close we also had an opportunity to speak to the crew and grab a few photo opps!Inspired by the incredible work of the charity we headed off in convoy (remembering to give priority to any aircraft taxiing towards the runway!) to the nearby Kings Head in North Weald Bassett where we enjoyed Sunday lunch. As a few of us entered the pub we saw the air ambulance responding to another call; a busy day for the county’s lifesavers and a fascinating and fun day out for the county’s Morganenthusiasts. See more photos below.

09/07/2025 Visit to Tiptree Jam
Nestled in the Essex countryside is the world famous home of Wilkin & SonsLtd, better known as Tiptree Jam.Anglemog members were joined by several Folkmog guests for a light lunch &then a guided tour of Wilkin & Sons Tiptree farm, the largest of their three fruitgrowing farms in the area.33 members climbed onto the purpose built trailer that took us on a 40 minutetour around the large growing areas, our excellent guide Elaine gave us somebackground into the history of jam manufacturing on the site which began 140years ago last month. The Wilkin family were originally arable farmers, they then started fruitfarming with the fruit being transported by horse & cart then train to be sold inthe London markets, you may have seen Wilkin & Sons featured on MichaelPortillo’s ‘Great British Railway Journeys’. It was decided by the then PM thatpreservation of fruit was vital for the nation, so the Britannia Fruit PreservingCompany was formed, interestingly, even in those early days Tiptree preserveswere shipped overseas. In 2010 the late Queen Elizabeth II visited Tiptree on the occasion of 125 yearsof making jam in Tiptree: other royal visitors have been the then Prince Edward& Sophie, Countess of Wessex, now of course the Duke & Duchess ofEdinburgh who visited in 2020.Elaine proudly told us that Wilkin & Sons have recently been granted the RoyalWarrant of Appointment as purveyors of Products to His Majesty King Charleslll; (the first was granted by George V in 1911.)We passed a Mulberry orchard as well as Quince trees & of course acres ofstrawberries, the key crop for the company. So called Spanish tunnels are thelatest innovation with sustainable controlled environment for the fruit, thesystem doubling the amount of plants that can be grown per hectare as well asmaking it easier for the pickers. Elaine explained that in the recent hotweather, many of the pickers, mostly from Eastern Europe with manyreturning each year, had been starting work in the early hours of the morning. We drove past the accommodation units as well as the recreational/welfarefacilities provided for the pickers. Transport is provided by the company for thepickers to travel to the nearby city of Colchester.
18-24/05/2025 Spring Foray to The Borders
An eclectic mix of Morgans and their Anglemog owners enjoyed a fabulous week in the Scottish Borders. The May weather was extraordinarily kind and we were able to enjoy some superb driving around the Scottish countryside. A total of 10 cars and 20 owners pitched up at the Philipburn Hotel in Selkirk which proved a great base for trips to Jedburgh, Peebles, Kelso and an extensive list of castles, gardens and historic houses. Many members also made a trip into Edinburgh – though public transport rather than Morgans was the preferred mode of transport! After our sunny daytime exploits we all regrouped at the hotel to enjoy three-course evening meals together. It was a great six days and huge thanks must go to our Centre Secretary Sue Miers and her husband Colin for organising such an enjoyable trip.
